About Us
As a professional writer and editor, Bridget Ingebrigtsen would often hear people say, "I don't know how to write," or "I don't have time to write." Meanwhile, Bridget was thinking, "I know how to write ... I have time." And so her entrepreneurial journey began.
In 1997, Bridget founded ELKOMM, a writing and editing business based in Elk Grove Village, a suburb of Chicago. In 2001, her family relocated to the capital of Illinois, Springfield, where people continually asked her, "What does ELKOMM mean?" Well, it stood for "Elk Communications," but Springfield folk didn't appreciate that. It was time for a new name ... and a new focus.
Bridget launched The Word Authority in 2004. The Word Authority had a different mission than many other writing businesses around. An entrepreneur at heart, Bridget wanted to help other business owners accomplish their business goals by assisting them with their written projects. From writing letters to proofing marketing materials, The Word Authority's no-job-is-too-small approach was a big hit with small businesses – many of which had limited budgets, yet high aspirations.
While helping other businesses grow, Bridget's business also began to grow. Soon, she had to find other "authorities" to help run the ship. She formed a team of writers, editors and technical experts to assist with the workload. With the addition of her new team members came – you guessed it! – another new name. The team decided on "Write On Command," a name they felt 1) was a great play on words, and 2) more accurately described their services.
Despite the name changes, Write On Command is still based on Bridget's original concept of, "I know how to write ... I have time." Only now it's, "We know how to write ... we have time."
